About these worksheets
Elapsed time is where telling time gets real, and it trips kids up most when the time crosses the hour. These sheets climb the same ladder as our How Long Until? game: whole hours, then minutes inside one hour, then problems that cross the hour, then any start time with some end times to find. Every problem is something a kid actually does, like soccer practice, the bus ride or baking cookies.
All worksheets are free for home and classroom use, print on one Letter or A4 page and come with an answer key. Every set is generated from the same word and number banks as our games, so "Make a new one" gives you unlimited practice.
Tips for parents & teachers
- Count on in hops: from 10:45, hop to 11:00 (15 minutes), then on to 11:20 (20 more). 15 + 20 = 35 minutes.
- For whole hours, put a finger on the hour hand and count the numbers it passes.
- If 10:45 to 11:15 comes out as 70 minutes, your child is just subtracting the numbers. Draw a number line with 11:00 marked in the middle and hop across it.
